Marqués de Cáceres Gaudium is one of the estate’s flagship Riojas, crafted from very old vines and aged in 100% new French oak for a wine of remarkable depth and precision. While rooted in the tradition of Rioja, it shows a more modern, concentrated style built on very ripe fruit, firm structure, and impressive complexity. It is considered an iconic cuvée from the house and a standout example of the winery’s finest work.

Tasting Notes
Deep, intense ruby in the glass, Gaudium opens with a rich aromatic profile of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark forest berries, and spice, lifted by black pepper and finely integrated oak. On the palate it is powerful and full-bodied, with a meaty, generous texture, ripe dark fruit, soft yet substantial tannins, and a long, layered finish where no single element dominates. The wine combines sweetness of fruit with serious depth and finesse, making it immediately appealing while also built for further development. It can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade, gaining more complexity and polish with time.

Production
Gaudium is made mainly from Tempranillo, with a small proportion of Graciano that adds freshness, acidity, and extra tannic grip. The grapes come from the oldest vineyards, where naturally low yields produce highly concentrated fruit, and the style is shaped by careful selection of very ripe berries. The wine is then matured for 15 months in 100% new oak barrels, using high-quality French oak to add structure, spice, and refinement without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for grilled and roasted meats, milk-fed lamb, Iberian pork, and rich game such as duck, venison, or hare. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
