Description
Marisa Cuomo Costa d'Amalfi Ravello Rosso Riserva 2020 is a characterful red from one of Campania’s most dramatic wine regions, where steep coastal terraces and volcanic soils help shape wines with real personality. Made from Piedirosso and Aglianico, it brings together southern Italian warmth, freshness, and structure in a style that reflects both tradition and the rugged beauty of the Amalfi coast.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riserva typically shows a deep ruby colour with youthful vibrancy and darker reflections. The nose is expressive and layered, with notes of ripe red cherry, plum, wild herbs, spice, and a subtle earthy edge that speaks to its coastal volcanic origins.
On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with juicy fruit, fine tannins, and lively acidity giving the wine shape and energy. Aglianico adds depth and firmness, while Piedirosso contributes softness and aromatic lift. The finish is persistent and savory, and the wine should develop additional nuance with a few years of cellaring.
Production
Marisa Cuomo’s vineyards are planted on the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Costa d’Amalfi, where terraces, sea breezes, and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture. The extreme terrain requires careful hand-harvesting, ensuring only well-selected grapes are brought in at optimal ripeness.
Vinification focuses on preserving the fragrance and structure of the native varieties, with ageing in wood helping to refine the tannins and build complexity. As a Riserva, the wine benefits from extended maturation before release, giving it greater depth and balance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, braised beef, game, grilled sausages, and rich Mediterranean dishes such as eggplant parmigiana or pasta with slow-cooked meat ragù. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
Marisa Cuomo is one of the most celebrated producers on the Amalfi Coast, known for crafting distinctive wines from perilously steep vineyards overlooking the sea. The estate has become a benchmark for Campania, especially for its work with native grapes and its ability to capture the freshness, minerality, and intensity of this unique terroir. Over the years, the winery has earned strong recognition for bringing international attention to wines from this remarkable part of southern Italy.
