Pavillon du Château Margaux 2020 offers an elegant introduction to the style of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates. Produced by Château Margaux in the Margaux appellation, it combines the property’s renowned gravelly terroir with a polished structure, aromatic finesse and the capacity to develop gracefully in bottle. The estate’s history stretches back to the 12th century, making it one of the great historical names of the Médoc.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby to garnet colour. The nose is refined and expressive, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum layered with violet, cedar, subtle spice and a delicate suggestion of tobacco. On the palate, it is poised and fresh, balancing concentrated dark-fruit flavours with silky tannins and well-integrated oak. A long, savoury finish adds further complexity. While approachable with decanting, the 2020 vintage has the structure and freshness to develop additional nuance over the next decade or more when properly cellared.

Production
The vineyards of Château Margaux are planted on the classic gravel and clay soils of the Médoc, with the gravel providing excellent drainage and helping the vines achieve full ripeness. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected before fermentation, with parcels vinified separately to preserve their individual character. Traditional Bordeaux winemaking is complemented by modern precision in temperature control, extraction and barrel ageing, resulting in a wine that combines depth with the estate’s characteristic elegance.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. Pavillon du Château Margaux 2020 is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck with a fruit-based sauce and mature hard cheeses. Decant for around 1–2 hours when drinking young to open the aromas and soften the tannins; older bottles may benefit from careful decanting only to remove sediment.
