Description
Château Margaux’s 2012 vintage is a classic expression of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated First Growth estates, combining refinement, precision, and unmistakable Margaux elegance. Built on Cabernet Sauvignon with supporting Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it reflects the estate’s long-standing reputation for producing wines of beauty, balance, and longevity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby colour with poised clarity. The nose is lifted and layered, offering notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, cedar, graphite, and fine spice, with subtle hints of tobacco and floral perfume.
On the palate, it is structured yet graceful, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a focused core of dark fruit framed by savoury complexity. The finish is long and composed, with the kind of finesse that suggests excellent ageing potential; while already approachable with decanting, it will continue to develop nuance over many years.
Production
Sourced from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, the wine comes from a terroir known for its gravel-rich soils, which favour Cabernet Sauvignon and contribute to elegance, aromatic lift, and structure. The grapes are typically hand-harvested and carefully sorted before vinification in the traditional fine-wine manner, with attention to parcel selection and gentle extraction to preserve purity and precision.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison, and mushroom-based preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and prestigious estates, classified as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification. Renowned for producing wines of exceptional elegance and longevity, it holds a defining place in the Margaux appellation and remains one of the most admired names in fine wine worldwide.
