Description
Château Margaux 2006 is a refined expression of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated First Growth estates, combining power, precision, and classic Margaux perfume. A blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, it reflects the elegance and longevity that have made this historic wine a benchmark for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby core with a graceful garnet edge as it begins to mature. The nose is layered and poised, with blackcurrant, ripe plum, cedar, graphite, violet, and subtle spice unfolding with time in the glass.
On the palate, it is polished and beautifully structured, with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a seamless balance between dark fruit, mineral notes, tobacco, and noble oak. The 2006 vintage is capable of long development, and while already approachable, it should continue to evolve gracefully for many more years under proper cellar conditions.
Production
Produced in Margaux within Bordeaux’s Left Bank, this wine comes from gravel-rich soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon and encourage excellent drainage and concentration. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is harvested parcel by parcel to preserve precision and character, then vinified with great care to maintain purity, structure, and the estate’s signature finesse.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or truffle-scented dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening now, especially to allow the aromas and texture to fully open.
Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the historic 1855 classification. With centuries of winemaking heritage and a reputation for producing wines of exceptional elegance and complexity, it remains one of the most admired names in fine wine worldwide.
