Description
Marchesi di Gresy Langhe Martinenga Nebbiolo 2022 is a beautifully polished, fruit-forward expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most prestigious sites. Sourced from the younger vines of the legendary Martinenga cru, it captures the elegance and depth of great Barbaresco in a more approachable, juicy style, with a short skin maceration and cement ageing preserving freshness and pure fruit character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a medium-intensity ruby red colour. The nose is impressively aromatic and expressive, with notes of raspberry, plum, black cherry, and rose petals.
On the palate, the wine is fresh, lively, and focused, with clean, precise fruit held in excellent balance by bright acidity. It is elegant and refined, yet with enough depth and structure to hint at the quality of the site. Best enjoyed in its youthful years, though it should develop additional complexity over the next few years.
Production
The grapes come from the Martinenga vineyard in Barbaresco, one of the Langhe’s most admired single estates, planted on south-facing slopes at 220 to 280 metres above sea level. Blue marl soils and a blend of Nebbiolo sub-varieties—Lampia, Rosé, and Michet—help produce wines of exceptional finesse and aromatic clarity.
For this wine, the fruit from younger vines undergoes a short maceration of 5 to 7 days with the skins before ageing in cement. This gentle approach preserves freshness, purity, and the vineyard’s natural expression while allowing the wine’s elegant structure to come through.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast veal, grilled lamb, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C, and consider a short decant of 30 to 60 minutes if drinking young to help the aromatics open up.
Producer
Marchesi di Grésy has been owned by the di Grésy family since 1797 and is one of Piedmont’s respected historic estates. The family began bottling its own wines in the early 1970s under Alberto di Grésy, with a clear focus on expressing terroir and tradition through modern, careful winemaking.
Today, the estate farms 111 hectares across Martinenga, Monte Aribaldo, La Serra, and Monte Colombo, vinifying only estate-grown grapes. Martinenga in particular is a benchmark site in Barbaresco, and Marchesi di Grésy is widely admired for producing wines of exceptional elegance, precision, and authenticity.
