Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a light garnet-red color that immediately signals finesse rather than power. The bouquet is wonderfully layered, unfolding with notes of plum, cherry, balsamic spice, mint, tea, dried flowers, and tobacco leaf. On the palate, the wine is supple and graceful, with bright, well-integrated fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a lifted, almost menthol-like finish. It has the structure to age beautifully, gaining complexity and nuance over time while retaining its hallmark elegance.

Production
Martinenga is a distinctive MGA in Barbaresco, where Marchesi di Gresy farms around 12 hectares of carefully tended vineyards. The soils are notably rich in limestone and marl, helping to shape the wine’s balance, tension, and aromatic precision. The vineyards are organically and sustainably cultivated, and the grapes are harvested by hand before fermentation and maturation. After fermentation, the wine spends 12 months aging in small French oak barrels, followed by another 12 months in large Slovenian oak casks, and then additional time in bottle before release. This measured élevage preserves the purity of the Nebbiolo while adding depth, texture, and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich yet elegant dishes such as truffle pasta, risotto with porcini, braised veal, roasted poultry, or aged cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
