Description
Marchesi di Barolo Moscato d'Asti Zagara 2024 is a beautifully aromatic DOCG dessert wine from Piedmont, made to capture the pure, floral charm of Moscato Bianco/Moscato Reale. Sourced from historic crus and crafted with remarkable care, it reflects the elegance and heritage that have long made Marchesi di Barolo one of the region’s reference names.
Tasting Notes
Pale and luminous in the glass, it shows the delicate sparkle typical of Moscato d’Asti. The bouquet is immediately expressive, with notes of orange blossom, apricot, and ripe peach, lifted by a fresh, fragrant sweetness.
On the palate, it is light, lively, and delicately sweet, with low alcohol and moderate acidity giving it balance and easy drinkability. The finish is fresh, perfumed, and persistent, making it especially appealing young while the wine’s primary aromatics are at their most vivid.
Production
The grapes come from prestigious historic crus on the hillsides of Piedmont, where the vines enjoy constant sunshine and are trained according to the Guyot system. The soils are medium-textured and rich in quartz sand and very fine silt, contributing trace elements and a distinctive aromatic profile. After harvest, the grapes are brought immediately to the cellar and pressed right away to preserve fragrance, then the must is cooled and fermented in autoclave, with fermentation stopped at 140 g/L of residual sugar to retain the wine’s natural sweetness and fresh mousse.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, ideally around 6–8°C, to highlight its floral aromas and refreshing finish. It pairs beautifully with fruit tarts, panettone, almond biscuits, soft pastries, and fresh fruit, and it also works well as a light, elegant conclusion to a meal. Decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Marchesi di Barolo is one of Piedmont’s most historic and respected producers, with roots tied to the era of the Falletti family and the great legacy of Barolo. The modern estate was shaped by Pietro Emilio Abbona, who helped carry the winery into its current form after acquiring the Tenuta Opera Pia Barolo property. Today, the estate is widely recognized for preserving tradition while producing wines that express the character and heritage of the region with clarity and precision.
