Description
Marchese Antinori Tenuta Montenisa Cuvée Royale is a refined Franciacorta Brut made in the traditional bottle-fermented style of Lombardy. Presented in an impressive 3-litre Doppio Magnum, it combines the elegance of premium Italian sparkling wine with the celebratory appeal of a large-format bottle. As part of the Antinori family’s Franciacorta collection, it reflects the region’s growing reputation for world-class Metodo Classico wines.
Tasting Notes
Bright straw yellow in colour, with a lively stream of fine, persistent bubbles. The nose offers delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, green apple and freshly baked brioche, while the palate is crisp and balanced, with orchard-fruit flavours, subtle creaminess and a clean, refreshing finish.
Its Brut style is dry and versatile, with enough texture to accompany food while remaining vibrant as an aperitif. The large format is particularly well suited to extended celebrations and can allow the wine to develop a more harmonious, rounded expression over time when stored correctly. As a non-vintage Franciacorta, it is best enjoyed for its freshness, though careful cellaring may add further toasty complexity.
Production
Produced in Franciacorta, an area known for its cool Alpine-influenced climate, mineral-rich soils and significant day-to-night temperature variation. The wine is made according to the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle followed by lees ageing before disgorgement, creating its fine mousse and subtle autolytic character. The Doppio Magnum format is especially valued for the slower, more measured maturation it encourages in bottle.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. It is excellent as an aperitif and pairs naturally with oysters, prawns, sushi, raw or lightly smoked fish, seafood risotto and delicate fried dishes. Its freshness also complements soft cheeses and poultry. Decanting is not normally required; instead, open carefully and pour slowly into appropriately sized sparkling-wine glasses. A large-format bottle should ideally be served promptly after opening, with a sparkling-wine stopper used if necessary.
Producer
Tenuta Montenisa is the Franciacorta estate of the historic Marchese Antinori family, one of Italy’s most influential wine producers, whose winemaking history dates back to 1385. Located in the heart of the Franciacorta region, the estate focuses on elegant Metodo Classico wines that express the area’s distinctive terroir. Its Cuvée Royale has become one of the estate’s recognised sparkling-wine cuvées, combining Antinori’s long-standing expertise with the refined character of Lombardy’s premier traditional-method appellation.
