Description
Marcarini Barolo La Serra 2021 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most historic crus, offering elegance, structure, and a true sense of place. Sourced from La Serra’s distinctive hillside soils, this wine stands out for its depth of flavour, mineral complexity, and naturally polished tannins. It reflects the tradition and prestige of Barolo while showing the precision and freshness that make this cru so admired.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic Barolo profile with a vibrant, garnet-tinged ruby colour that hints at its youthful energy and future development. The bouquet is layered and lifted, with aromas of rose petals, red cherries, dried herbs, and subtle spice, underscored by a fine mineral edge. On the palate, it is structured yet poised, with good concentration, ripe red fruit, savoury complexity, and tannins that feel firm but not overly aggressive.
La Serra is known for wines that combine power with finesse, and this 2021 vintage should age beautifully over time. While approachable in its youth with proper aeration, it is a wine that will reward patience, gaining nuance and silkiness with several years in bottle.
Production
La Serra is an historic Barolo site with soils low in organic matter but rich in mineral salts and microelements, helping shape wines with colour, structure, and generous flavour without pushing tannins too hard. The vineyard also benefits from a special microclimate marked by gentle ventilation and a constant circulation of fresh, dry air, which supports healthy ripening and aromatic precision. These conditions are well suited to Nebbiolo, encouraging balance, freshness, and an elegant, site-driven expression.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is an excellent match for rich Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, truffle risotto, tajarin with meat ragù, and roasted game. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours when young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
