Malavasi, San Giacomo 2022 White

Malavasi’s San Giacomo 2022 is a beautifully expressive white from the southern shores of Lake Garda, where the family’s generations of know-how meet a naturally gifted terroir. Made in the heart of Lugana, it reflects the area’s signature elegance: generous, mineral-driven, and wonderfully fresh, with the kind of balance that has made this region one of Italy’s most admired for white wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright, pale straw-yellow color with a clean, luminous sheen. The nose is delicate yet inviting, offering notes of white flowers, citrus, ripe orchard fruit, and a subtle mineral edge that hints at the limestone-rich soils of the vineyard. On the palate, San Giacomo is full-flavored but never heavy, combining a мягкий, rounded texture with refreshing acidity and a crisp, saline finish. The Lake Garda microclimate brings clarity and finesse, while the Turbiana grape gives the wine its distinctive depth and character. It is enjoyable now for its freshness, but it can also develop added complexity over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from Malavasi’s vineyards in Pozzolengo, near the southern end of Lake Garda, where the warm sun is tempered by the cooling Pelér wind and the lake’s gentle influence. The vines are grown as naturally as possible to preserve the landscape and express the purity of the site, while the calcareous soils provide the mineral salts that give Lugana wines their signature complexity. Careful vineyard work and a detailed understanding of each parcel support a vinification approach focused on precision and aromatic expression.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled or baked fish, shellfish, risotto with seafood, fresh pasta with light cream or vegetable sauces, and mild cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to bring out its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not necessary, though allowing it a few minutes in the glass can help the wine open beautifully.
