Description

Maison Virginie IGP Pays Chardonnay 2024 is a sun‑kissed southern French white that balances juicy fruit with vibrant freshness. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay grown in the Languedoc-Roussillon, it showcases citrus brightness and exotic fruit in a generous, easy‑drinking style. As part of Maison Virginie’s mission to express the richness of Pays d’Oc, this cuvée offers a modern, fruit‑forward take on one of the world’s most beloved grape varieties.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a light, luminous golden-yellow hue with green reflections that hint at its youth and freshness. The nose is inviting and expressive, led by zesty citrus notes—think lemon and grapefruit—wrapped around ripe passion fruit and hints of white blossom. On the palate, it is juicy and rounded, with a lively acidity that keeps the wine crisp and moreish. The fruit profile is generous and tropical, combining citrus, stone fruit and a distinct flash of fresh pineapple that lingers on the finish. Medium-bodied and smooth, it’s designed for immediate pleasure rather than long-term cellaring, showing best within 1–3 years of the vintage while its vibrant fruit is at its peak.

Production
Sourced from vineyards in the sun-drenched Pays d’Oc zone of Languedoc-Roussillon, the Chardonnay grapes benefit from a Mediterranean climate moderated by cooling breezes and varied soils of limestone, clay and alluvial deposits. This combination of warmth and freshness allows slow, even ripening and preserves aromatic intensity. The grapes are typically harvested in the cool of the night or early morning to protect their delicate aromas, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to lock in purity of fruit and crisp acidity, with the wine aged briefly on fine lees to add a touch of roundness and texture without oak influence, keeping the style clean, fruity and approachable.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled fish, shellfish, ceviche, sushi, chicken salads, creamy pasta dishes and soft cheeses such as brie or camembert. It also shines as an aperitif, served alongside light tapas, vegetable tarts or fresh goat cheese. For optimal enjoyment, serve well-chilled at 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle shortly before serving to appreciate its bright, aromatic character.

Producer
Maison Virginie was founded over 30 years ago by a wine enthusiast deeply in love with the Languedoc region, and named in honor of his youngest daughter, Virginie. From the beginning, the estate’s ambition has been to reflect the diversity and richness of the Pays d’Oc terroir through generous, round and fruit-driven wines. Today, Maison Virginie is recognized as part of the modern, quality-focused wave in southern France, drawing on the skills of dedicated men and women who craft two complementary ranges: the approachable “Ma Cuvée” wines, capturing the free spirit and simplicity of Pays d’Oc, and the more complex, varietal-focused “Cépages” series, designed to accompany convivial meals and everyday gastronomy.
