Description

Maison Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges 2017 is a distinguished red Burgundy shaped by Lalou Bize-Leroy’s exacting pursuit of terroir expression. From one of the Côte de Nuits’ most characterful appellations, it combines the elegance of Burgundy with the depth and structure for which Nuits-Saint-Georges is known. The 2017 vintage offers an appealing balance of ripe fruit, freshness and early approachability.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine presents a vibrant ruby to garnet colour. The nose is refined and expressive, with aromas of ripe red berries, black cherry, violets and subtle earthy, spicy nuances. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, combining supple fruit with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. Notes of cherry, raspberry, savoury spice and woodland floor develop towards a long, persistent finish. Although enjoyable now with a little aeration, this wine should gain further complexity in bottle. Its structure and freshness suggest a drinking window extending through the late 2020s and potentially beyond, depending on storage conditions.

Production
Nuits-Saint-Georges lies in the Côte de Nuits, where limestone and clay soils, together with Burgundy’s continental climate, provide the foundation for structured yet elegant Pinot Noir. Maison Leroy selects wines according to strict standards intended to reflect the character of their individual terroirs. Specific details concerning the vineyard parcel, harvesting method and cellar regime for this bottling are not provided, but the wine is made in the traditional red Burgundy style, with careful attention to preserving varietal purity, balance and site expression.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 15–17°C. Its combination of red fruit, savoury depth and structured tannins makes it a natural partner for roast duck, coq au vin, roast chicken, veal, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes and mildly seasoned game. Decanting is not essential for a mature 2017 bottle, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter can help reveal its aromatic detail and soften the wine’s youthful structure. For older bottles, gentle pouring off any sediment is preferable to prolonged aeration.

Producer
Maison Leroy’s history is closely linked to Lalou Bize-Leroy, who joined the family business in 1955 and became its director in 1971. Through extensive tasting and close study, she developed a highly detailed understanding of Burgundy’s individual terroirs and set exceptionally demanding standards for wines carrying the Maison Leroy label. As sourcing increasingly became more difficult, she expanded the family’s vineyard holdings, establishing Domaine Leroy in 1988 through the acquisition of estates in Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, Domaine Leroy covers approximately 21 hectares, while Maison Leroy remains one of Burgundy’s most respected names for terroir-focused wines.
