Description
Maison Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges 2013 is a distinguished red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most respected appellations. Produced under the exacting Maison Leroy label, it reflects Lalou Bize-Leroy’s lifelong pursuit of wines that express the individual character of their vineyard origins, combining the elegance of Pinot Noir with the distinctive depth and structure associated with Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby colour, likely showing garnet nuances with age. Its bouquet opens with aromas of ripe red and dark berries, dried flowers, subtle earth, and a characteristic savoury touch, with further complexity developing in the glass. On the palate, it is refined yet structured, offering flavours of cherry, raspberry, plum, spice, and forest floor, supported by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. The 2013 vintage is now entering a mature drinking window, and should continue to evolve gracefully over the next several years when well stored.
Production
Nuits-Saint-Georges lies in the Côte de Nuits, where limestone and marl soils, together with a relatively cool continental climate, help produce Pinot Noir with both freshness and structure. The wine is made from Pinot Noir sourced for Maison Leroy, whose rigorous standards focus on expressing the essential character of each Burgundy terroir. Specific harvesting and cellar details for this bottle are not provided; as with all Maison Leroy wines, careful selection and a precise vinification are central to the house style.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to acclimatise gently. With its combination of savoury complexity, freshness, and mature fruit, this Nuits-Saint-Georges pairs beautifully with roast duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, veal, mushroom dishes, and classic Burgundy specialities such as coq au vin. Decanting is not essential for a mature bottle, but a brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the aromas; older bottles are best poured carefully to avoid disturbing any sediment.
Producer
Maison Leroy is closely associated with Lalou Bize-Leroy, who joined her family’s business in 1955 and became its director in 1971. Through decades of tasting and study, she developed an exceptional understanding of the individual character of Burgundy’s vineyards. As it became increasingly difficult to find growers whose wines met Maison Leroy’s demanding standards, she expanded the family’s vineyard holdings, founding Domaine Leroy in 1988 through the acquisition of estates in Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, Maison Leroy and Domaine Leroy are among Burgundy’s most revered names, celebrated for their rarity, meticulous selection, and uncompromising focus on terroir.
