Description

Magrez Fombrauge Grand Cru Saint-Émilion 2018 is a refined Bordeaux from one of the appellation’s most respected names, combining the depth and structure associated with Saint-Émilion with the polish and generosity of a modern, premium style. The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as an excellent one, and this wine reflects that quality with its balance, concentration, and elegant presentation.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is likely to show a deep ruby color with vibrant purple highlights, hinting at its youth and concentration. The nose typically opens with ripe dark berries, plum, and black cherry, layered with notes of cedar, cocoa, tobacco, and subtle spice from oak aging. On the palate, expect a full-bodied, silky-textured wine with well-defined tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of black fruit that carries through to a long, polished finish. While already approachable, the wine should reward cellaring and can develop greater complexity over the next 8–15 years, gaining more earthy, savory depth with time.

Production
Produced in Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s right bank, the wine benefits from the region’s clay and limestone soils, which help preserve freshness while supporting depth and structure. Grapes are typically harvested with careful attention to ripeness, and vinification is carried out to emphasize purity of fruit, balance, and finesse, often with aging in oak barrels to enhance complexity and texture.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, mushroom dishes, and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.

Producer
Magrez Fombrauge is associated with Château Fombrauge, one of the historic estates of Saint-Émilion, known for producing wines that combine tradition with modern precision. The estate has long held an important place in the region and is recognized for its Grand Cru status and consistent quality, making it a respected name among Bordeaux enthusiasts.
