Description
Lungarotti’s L’Um Bianco is a polished Umbrian white that brings together the aromatic lift of Vermentino and the structure of Chardonnay. Fresh, elegant, and unmistakably rooted in Torgiano, it reflects both the character of its region and the thoughtful style that has made Lungarotti one of Umbria’s best-known names.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright straw-yellow colour with subtle green highlights. The nose is fresh and precise, opening with white flowers, hazelnut, and ripe fruit such as peach, green apple, and citrus.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and well balanced, with a lively citrus-driven acidity that gives the wine excellent drinkability and a long, persistent finish. Thanks to its freshness and fine structure, it should be enjoyed young, while its aromatic purity is at its most expressive, though it can also hold nicely for a short period in bottle.
Production
L’Um Bianco comes from Lungarotti’s vineyards in Torgiano, where the vines are planted on deep, medium-textured soils with a clear clay presence. This terroir helps shape the wine’s balanced structure and defined flavour profile, while environmentally respectful farming and training systems such as spur cordon and Guyot support healthy, quality-driven fruit.
Harvest takes place in mid-September, when the grapes have reached optimal aromatic maturity while retaining their natural freshness. In the cellar, only free-run juice is used, followed by a short cryomaceration to gently extract aromatic precursors. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at consistently low temperatures, and the wine is aged briefly on fine lees before bottling to enhance texture, roundness, and harmony between the grape varieties.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile white wine that works beautifully with seafood, grilled fish, shellfish, light pasta dishes, vegetable risottos, and fresh cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to preserve its brightness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Lungarotti is one of the most important estates in Umbria, closely linked to the town of Torgiano and to the modern history of quality winemaking in the region. Founded by Giorgio Lungarotti and now led by Maria Grazia, Chiara, and Teresa, the estate is known for its commitment to research, sustainability, and a style of production that respects nature. Its strong cultural identity is also reflected in the wine label’s historic Satyr illustration from the estate’s Wine Museum.
