Description

Lungarotti Torre di Giano 62 2024 is a fresh, modern reimagining of one of Umbria’s most emblematic white wines. Crafted from Grechetto and Trebbiano grown in the historic parcels where Torre di Giano has been produced since 1962 – and farmed since far earlier – it captures the region’s graceful balance between tradition and innovation. As part of Lungarotti’s ambitious “Project 1962,” this cuvée offers a sleeker, more incisive style designed to express Umbria’s character with clarity and drinkability.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Torre di Giano 62 2024 shows a bright straw-yellow hue with delicate, pale golden reflections and a subtle hint of cedar bark at the rim. The nose is authentic and immediate, opening with fragrant notes of orange blossom and acacia, followed by white peach, fresh orchard fruit, and a gentle floral lift that feels both inviting and refined. On the palate, this is crisp, linear and wonderfully balanced, with Trebbiano bringing zesty acidity and Grechetto adding texture and subtle complexity. Juicy white peach and citrus mingle with hints of wild herbs and a faint nutty-mineral edge, leading to a clean, persistent finish that feels refreshing rather than heavy. Intended as a wine to be enjoyed in its youth, it will drink beautifully over the next 2–4 years, developing a touch more roundness and complexity while retaining its vibrant, “slow life” Umbrian freshness.

Production
The grapes for Torre di Giano 62 come from the historic vineyards of Torgiano in Umbria, an area with rolling hills, well-drained soils rich in clay and limestone, and a continental climate moderated by altitude and cooling breezes. These conditions, long recognized as ideal for balanced white wines, allow Grechetto and Trebbiano to ripen slowly while preserving acidity and aromatics. Harvest typically takes place in the first half of September and, in line with Project 1962’s climate-conscious approach, is slightly anticipated to keep the fruit fresh and bright. Only traditional white varieties are used, and great care is taken during vinification – gentle pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel and a focus on protecting aromatics – to express the precision of the terroir and the purity of the fruit without heavy oak influence.

Food & Serving
Torre di Giano 62 2024 is a natural match for delicately flavored dishes that echo its freshness and subtle complexity. Think seafood crudo, grilled prawns, simply prepared white fish, vegetable risotti, spring salads with burrata, or pasta with clams and mild herbs; it also pairs beautifully with soft cheeses and light poultry dishes. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its floral and citrus-driven character. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle shortly before serving to let the aromas unfold in the glass.

Producer
Lungarotti is one of Italy’s benchmark family-owned wineries and the historic standard-bearer for quality wine in Umbria. Founded by the visionary Giorgio Lungarotti in the 1960s, the estate was instrumental in putting Torgiano on the world wine map, most famously through the iconic Rubesco and its Riserva, regularly celebrated among Italy’s top wines and consistently highly rated in guides such as Gambero Rosso. Today, Giorgio’s daughters Chiara and Teresa lead the estate, combining heritage with an entrepreneurial, sustainability-focused outlook – from generating the majority of their energy needs via by-products of the vineyards to curating wine and olive oil museums and a five-star hotel in Torgiano. Project 1962, which includes Torre di Giano 62, represents the latest chapter in Lungarotti’s mission: to share Umbria’s elegance, authenticity and “slow life” with the world through timeless, yet thoroughly contemporary wines.
