Luca, Old Vine Malbec 2023

Luca Old Vine Malbec 2023 is a striking expression of Argentine Malbec, crafted from exceptionally old vines in Uco Valley. Made by Laura Catena exclusively from Malbec vines averaging over 55 years of age, it delivers remarkable concentration, elegance, and depth while staying beautifully fresh and refined. This is a wine that shows why Uco Valley has become one of the benchmark regions for world-class Malbec.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color with an intense purple core. The nose is rich and polished, opening with ripe plum, black cherry, and blackberry, followed by notes of cocoa, sweet spice, espresso, and subtle layers of oak, balsamic nuance, and graphite. The palate is powerful yet graceful, with juicy dark fruit carried by vivid freshness and velvety tannins. Twelve months in French oak add hints of vanilla, toast, and cocoa without overshadowing the fruit, while the calcareous soils lend a fine mineral tension. Long, layered, and harmonious on the finish, it already offers plenty of pleasure but has excellent aging potential.

Production
This Malbec comes from old-vine parcels in Uco Valley, where high-altitude conditions and calcareous soils help shape the wine’s precision, freshness, and mineral character. The grapes are sourced exclusively from Malbec vines with an average age of more than 55 years, bringing low yields and exceptional concentration. After fermentation, the wine spends 12 months maturing in French oak barrels, adding subtle complexity and polish to the final blend.

Food & Serving
An excellent match for grilled beef, lamb, game, or mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C for the best expression of fruit and structure. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially if enjoying it young, to let the wine open fully and show its layered complexity.
