Description
Louis Roederer Brut Vintage 2015 Magnum is a powerful and characterful Champagne that captures the warmth and concentration of a remarkable vintage, while retaining the freshness and precision that define the house style. Coming from some of Champagne’s most celebrated vineyards, it combines ripe Pinot Noir depth with Chardonnay elegance, making it a standout release in an impressive lineage of vintage Champagnes.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful light golden hue with extremely fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is expressive and Pinot Noir-driven, offering redcurrant, raspberry, sour cherry, and dried fruit, layered with smoky, spicy nuances from oak ageing; with air, Chardonnay adds apricot, white peach, dried fig, and a subtle mineral edge.
The palate is full-bodied and ample, yet taut and focused, balancing rich, sun-ripened fruit with a cool, chalky backbone. The finish is long and refined, with notes of bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, red berries, and a saline freshness that keeps the wine lifted and precise. It has excellent ageing potential and will continue to develop added complexity over time.
Production
The wine comes mainly from the iconic vineyards around Verzy and Verzenay in Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir brings intensity, structure, and depth, while Chardonnay from Chouilly contributes finesse, minerality, and aromatic lift. The 2015 season was hot and dry, though late-August rainfall helped preserve balance and freshness in the grapes.
Around 34% of the wine was aged in oak casks, adding texture, depth, and a discreet toasted character, while 24–27% underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the structure without dulling the wine’s bright acidity. The result is a vintage Champagne of impressive harmony, shaped by careful vinification and a strong sense of terroir.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with dishes that can match its richness and structure, such as lobster, scallops, roasted chicken, veal, truffled risotto, or poultry with creamy sauces. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and elegant seafood dishes. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C; decanting is not usually necessary, but giving it a little time in the glass will help the aromas open fully.
