Description
Lionel Osmin & Cie’s Clos Cancaillau Au Lavoir is a powerful, dry expression of Jurançon, proving that this Pyrenean appellation is capable of producing far more than its famous sweet wines. Made from old Petit Manseng vines and shaped by steep slopes, bright sunshine and cool nights, it combines impressive aromatic concentration with the freshness and mineral precision that define great Jurançon Sec.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a clear, luminous golden-yellow colour. Its intense and refined nose opens with white peach, ripe pear, citrus, pineapple and white flowers, followed by subtle nuances of honey, vanilla and gentle spice.
On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, yet beautifully balanced by lively acidity and a refined mineral character. The finish is long, layered and complex, with the concentration and structure to develop further in bottle over the coming years. It can be enjoyed now with decanting, but additional cellaring should bring greater harmony and depth.
Production
Au Lavoir comes from old Petit Manseng vines grown at the foothills of the Pyrenees, where sunny days, cool nights and steeply sloping vineyards help preserve freshness while building aromatic intensity. Lionel Osmin & Cie works closely with the Carrère family to reveal the full potential of dry Jurançon. The vineyards are cultivated as organically as possible, with the long-term aim of eliminating residual treatments; specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided.
Food & Serving
A versatile gastronomic white, this Jurançon Sec is an excellent match for grilled fish, shellfish, crustaceans and smoked salmon. Its richness also complements poultry in creamy sauces, veal and mature hard cheeses. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant can help the wine’s aromatic complexity and mineral structure unfold, particularly when enjoyed young.
Producer
Founded in 2006, Lionel Osmin & Cie is a specialist négociant and producer dedicated to the distinctive wines and spirits of south-western France, including Jurançon, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, Cahors, Gaillac, Bergerac and Armagnac. The company places strong emphasis on regional grape varieties such as Petit and Gros Manseng, while pursuing increasingly sustainable vineyard practices in a challenging Atlantic climate. Its ambitious tree-planting programme, launched in 2010, has contributed to the reforestation of the Landes forest; by the end of 2018, almost 43,000 trees had been planted across more than 40 hectares.
