Description

Lingua Franca’s Mimi’s Mind Pinot Noir is a distinctive Oregon cuvée that showcases fruit from Mimi Casteel’s exceptionally farmed vineyard, where biodiversity and precision viticulture set the tone for the wine. Named in tribute to Casteel’s intuitive approach in the vineyard, this bottling brings together the best of site, clone selection, and thoughtful winemaking. It reflects both the terroir-driven style of Lingua Franca and the Burgundian expertise of winemaker Thomas Savre.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir offers a vibrant, elegant profile with layered aromas of herbs, orchard fruit, forest floor, and ripe berries. The bouquet feels both lifted and deeply textured, with a subtle earthiness that adds complexity and a sense of place. On the palate, the wine is structured and energetic, balancing savory nuances with juicy red and dark fruit, spice, and a long, persistent finish. It has the concentration and backbone to evolve beautifully in bottle over the coming years, while already showing plenty of charm at release.

Production
The fruit comes from Mimi Casteel’s vineyard in Oregon, a site farmed with remarkable care and an emphasis on ecological diversity and vine health. The cuvée is built from two Pinot Noir clones: 40% PN667 and the classic Pommard clone, selected for their suitability to the vineyard and the wine’s desired structure. Winemaker Thomas Savre fermented and matured the wine with restraint, using only 8% whole clusters in the 2019 reference approach and aging it in 225-liter barriques, with just 22% new oak, to preserve terroir expression and finesse.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent food wine, pairing especially well with duck, roast chicken, game birds, mushroom dishes, and dishes featuring earthy root vegetables or herbal sauces. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider decanting for 30–45 minutes if opening young to allow the aromatics and structure to fully unfold.

Producer
Lingua Franca is an Oregon producer focused on crafting site-specific wines with elegance, precision, and a strong sense of place. Working with some of the region’s most compelling vineyard sites and guided by a Burgundian-inspired philosophy, the estate has quickly earned recognition for producing refined, age-worthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its collaboration with growers such as Mimi Casteel highlights a commitment to exceptional farming and terroir-driven winegrowing.
