Description

Leclerc Briant Brut Zéro Les Basses Prières 2015 is a distinctive vintage Champagne built around the harmony of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a single cuvée. With virtually no dosage and an individual, wine-driven style, it showcases the depth, savoury character and generous texture of the 2015 vintage. Disgorged in November 2020, it offers both immediate appeal and the complexity expected from a mature, traditionally made Champagne.

Tasting Notes
The wine opens with an expressive bouquet of roasted, salted cashews, subtle caramel and lemon-scented, buttery toast. On the palate, a lively mousse carries flavours of toasted nuts and smoked almonds, balanced by pronounced lemon freshness and a juicy, rounded texture. The vintage’s naturally relaxed structure gives the wine an inviting breadth, while its layered flavours persist through a long, complex finish. It is drinking beautifully now and should continue to develop savoury, nutty nuances with further bottle age.

Production
The cuvée is made from co-harvested, whole-bunch-pressed and co-fermented Pinot Noir (80%) and Chardonnay (20%). The base wine was aged for nine months in oak, adding breadth and subtle toast to the fruit’s natural freshness. With a dosage of just 2 g/l, it sits firmly in the extra-brut, near-zero-dosage style, allowing the character of the grapes and the vintage to remain at the forefront. Specific vineyard and terroir details are not provided.

Food & Serving
Its combination of saline freshness, creamy texture and roasted-nut complexity makes it an excellent partner for oysters, shellfish, sushi, grilled fish and roast poultry. It also works especially well with delicate dishes featuring browned butter, mushrooms or toasted nuts. Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C; decanting is not essential, though a short period in a wide glass can help reveal its layered aromas and savoury character.

Producer
Leclerc Briant is a respected Champagne house based in Épernay, known for producing expressive, terroir-focused wines with a strong emphasis on precision and minimal intervention. The estate has long been associated with organic and biodynamic approaches, helping establish its reputation among producers pursuing a more transparent style of Champagne. Its wines are particularly valued for their combination of freshness, vinous texture and distinctive, low-dosage character.
