Description
Leclerc Briant Brut Zéro Grand Blanc 2014 is a refined vintage Champagne made without dosage and without added sulphur dioxide, allowing the wine’s purity, minerality and autolytic character to take centre stage. Aged for several years before disgorgement, it combines remarkable freshness with the depth and texture expected from a serious, gastronomic Champagne.
Tasting Notes
Bright and energetic in the glass, it releases a fine, persistent stream of delicate bubbles. The nose is rich and expressive, recalling buttery shortcrust pastry, freshly baked panettone and subtle brioche, lifted by a distinct mineral freshness.
On the palate, immediate vibrancy gives way to layers of yeasty, savoury complexity, chalky salinity and a generous, buttery texture. The tension between freshness and richness is particularly compelling, while the long, flavour-filled finish leaves a lasting impression. With its mature character and firm structure, the Champagne can be enjoyed now and should continue to develop gracefully over the coming years when properly stored.
Production
This vintage Brut Zéro was produced without the addition of sulphur dioxide and finished with zero dosage, preserving a particularly pure and uncompromising expression of the wine. Its extended lees ageing has encouraged pronounced autolytic depth, contributing notes of pastry, panettone and brioche alongside the wine’s chalky, saline freshness. It was disgorged in May 2022.
Food & Serving
Its combination of precision, salinity and rich pastry-like texture makes it an excellent match for oysters, scallops, grilled lobster, sashimi and delicate fish dishes. It also works beautifully with roasted poultry, creamy vegetable dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C; decanting is not essential, though a brief rest in the glass can help reveal its layered aroma and texture.
Producer
Founded in 1872, Leclerc Briant is based in Épernay and has become known for producing distinctive, terroir-focused Champagnes with a strong emphasis on organic and biodynamic practices. The house is particularly respected for its low-intervention approach, extended ageing and finely judged expressions of Champagne’s chalk-rich vineyards. Its wines are recognised for combining precision and minerality with depth, texture and a clear sense of place.
