Description
Leclerc Briant Brut Zéro Blanc de Meuniers 2016 is a distinctive, terroir-driven Champagne made entirely from Meunier, sourced from a single parcel in Chamery. With no conventional dosage and a notable élevage in oak, it offers a compelling combination of floral lift, creamy texture and mineral depth. The 2016 vintage brings both freshness and concentration to this expressive Blanc de Meuniers.
Tasting Notes
The Champagne opens with a fine, persistent mousse and a pale golden appearance. Its aromatic profile is layered and intriguing, showing delicate florals alongside smoky nuances and ripe plum. On the palate, generous lemon and buttery creaminess are balanced by beautifully precise bubbles and a saline impression reminiscent of oyster shell. Juicy, tangy yellow apple adds freshness and length, creating a complete and highly gastronomic Champagne.
With a dosage of just 1.8 g/l, the wine retains a dry, focused character while remaining remarkably supple. It is drinking beautifully now, though its freshness, structure and mineral finish should allow it to develop further over the next several years when stored properly.
Production
The wine comes from a parcel in Chamery with a thin layer of topsoil, allowing the vines to express the mineral character of the underlying terroir. The Meunier grapes were fermented and matured in oak, contributing subtle smoky and creamy dimensions without obscuring the fruit or freshness. It was disgorged in October 2022 and finished with a very low dosage of 1.8 g/l, preserving the wine’s natural precision and saline character.
Food & Serving
A superb partner for oysters, shellfish, sashimi and other delicate seafood, this Champagne also works beautifully with grilled scallops, roast chicken, creamy fish dishes and soft-ripened cheeses. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, allowing it to warm slightly in the glass to reveal its aromatic complexity. Decanting is not essential, but a brief decant or service in a large white-wine glass can help the wine’s smoky, floral and creamy notes unfold.
Producer
Leclerc Briant is one of Champagne’s historic houses, founded in 1872 and based in Épernay. The estate is particularly respected for its terroir-focused approach, expressive single-parcel wines and low-dosage Champagnes, with an emphasis on allowing the character of the vineyard and vintage to come through. Its distinctive cuvées have helped establish the house as a notable reference for precise, individualistic Champagne.
