Description
Le Vigne di Zamò’s Friuli Colli Orientali Sauvignon is a vibrant organic white that captures the precision and freshness of northeastern Italy. Made in the hills of Manzano, it stands out for its lifted aromatics, elegant structure, and the estate’s long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture rooted in generations of local farming.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw yellow in the glass, this Sauvignon opens with expressive aromas of honeysuckle, gooseberry, pink grapefruit, blackcurrant leaf, mint, and mallow, with a delicate hint of peach skin. The bouquet is refined rather than overpowering, showing good clarity and balance.
On the palate it is fresh, zesty, and well-judged, with moderate aromatic intensity and a clean, discreetly persistent finish. The wine’s lively acidity and poised fruit profile give it excellent immediate appeal, while the structure and lees ageing suggest it can hold its freshness well over the next few years.
Production
The wine comes from Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an area known for its hillside vineyards, mineral-rich soils, and cool climate that preserves aroma and acidity in Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes are grown with respect for nature and harvested for freshness, then destemmed and given a cold static maceration overnight in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After nitrogen pressing, fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures, followed by eight months of ageing on the lees before bottling.
Food & Serving
This Sauvignon is an excellent match for asparagus, goat cheese, seafood, shellfish, and light vegetable dishes, as well as sushi or herb-driven salads. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to highlight its aromatic lift and crisp texture. Decanting is not necessary, though a short pause in the glass can help the subtle floral and herbal notes open up.
Producer
Le Vigne di Zamò was founded in 1978, but the family’s connection to the land in Manzano goes back centuries. The estate is widely respected in Friuli for combining tradition with a forward-looking approach to sustainability, and it has built a strong reputation for expressive wines that reflect their hillside origin with precision and authenticity.
