Le Macchiole, Toscana Messorio 2015

Le Macchiole Messorio 2015 is a benchmark single-vineyard Merlot from Bolgheri, one of Tuscany’s most celebrated coastal wine regions. Made by the pioneering Le Macchiole estate, it combines the richness of the grape with the freshness and mineral character of the Etruscan Coast, placing it among the area’s most distinguished red wines.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in colour with garnet nuances developing at the rim. The nose is expressive and layered, offering ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum alongside notes of violet, Mediterranean herbs, dark chocolate and finely integrated spice from the French oak. On the palate, Messorio is full-bodied and concentrated, yet balanced by vibrant acidity and a firm, polished tannic structure. The finish is long and savoury, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa and herbal notes. The 2015 vintage has excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop gracefully for many years when properly cellared.

Production
The wine comes from Le Macchiole’s vineyards in Bolgheri, along Tuscany’s Costa degli Etruschi, where the combination of maritime influence, warm sunlight and hillside sites creates ideal conditions for structured, aromatic red wines. Messorio is produced from Merlot and reflects the estate’s pioneering focus on single-vineyard expressions. Fermentation takes place over approximately 25 days in concrete and stainless-steel tanks, followed by 18 months of maturation in new French oak barriques.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to come gently to temperature. Its depth and structure make it an excellent match for roasted or braised beef, venison, lamb, game birds and rich pasta dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Decant for around 1–2 hours before serving, particularly when opening a younger bottle, to soften the tannins and reveal the wine’s full aromatic complexity.
