Description
Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2024 is a vibrant expression of the Costa degli Etruschi, combining ripe dark fruit with spice, vanilla and a refined touch of dark chocolate. Produced by one of Bolgheri’s pioneering estates, it reflects the region’s remarkable ability to produce elegant, structured red wines alongside celebrated names such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep ruby-red colour in the glass. Its aromatic profile is generously fruity, with notes of dark berries and ripe black fruit complemented by warm spices, vanilla and dark chocolate.
On the palate, it is fruit-driven, harmonious and well balanced, with a supple texture and mature, polished tannins. The wine is enjoyable in its youth, while its structure should allow it to develop added complexity over the next few years when properly cellared.
Production
The vineyards lie in Bolgheri on Tuscany’s Etruscan Coast, between the Mediterranean Sea and the inland hills, in a landscape shaped by forests, vineyards and olive groves. The grapes undergo approximately 15 days of fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. The wine is then matured for 10 months, with 70% aged in barriques and 30% in concrete tanks. Harvesting methods and the grape composition are not specified.
Food & Serving
A versatile partner for roasted and grilled red meats, beef stew, wild boar, lamb and hearty pasta dishes with tomato or meat-based sauces. It also works well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential for immediate enjoyment, but a short decant of 30–60 minutes can help open the wine and soften its youthful structure.
Producer
Le Macchiole has cultivated vineyards in Bolgheri since 1983 and is regarded as one of the area’s pioneering estates. The winery helped establish Bolgheri as a source of ambitious, terroir-driven wines, with particular recognition for its early focus on single-vineyard bottlings. Today, Le Macchiole is considered among the region’s leading producers, sharing the Bolgheri spotlight with estates such as Tenuta San Guido and Tenuta dell’Ornellaia.
