Le Macchiole, Bolgheri Rosso 2022

Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso 2022 is a beautifully balanced Tuscan red from one of Bolgheri’s most respected estates. Produced on the Etruscan Coast between the hills and the sea, it combines generous dark-fruit character with polished tannins and subtle oak influence. Le Macchiole has been cultivating vines here since 1983 and is widely regarded as a pioneer of single-vineyard wines in the region.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby-red colour in the glass. Its expressive nose reveals dark fruits alongside warm spices, vanilla and accents of pure dark chocolate. On the palate, it is fruit-driven and supple, with excellent balance and mature tannins that give the wine structure without overshadowing its freshness. The finish is smooth and persistent, making it enjoyable now while offering the concentration to develop further over the next few years.

Production
The vineyards lie in Bolgheri on Tuscany’s Costa degli Etruschi, a distinctive landscape shaped by forested hills, vineyards, olive groves and the nearby Mediterranean influence. The grapes are fermented for 15 days in stainless-steel tanks, followed by 10 months of maturation: 70% in barriques and 30% in concrete tanks. The grape varieties are not specified for this vintage.

Food & Serving
A versatile partner for grilled or roasted red meats, Tuscan-style stews, pasta with rich ragù and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the wine’s dark-fruit and spice aromas, especially when enjoyed young.
