Description

Le Guaite di Noemi Valpolicella Superiore 2014 is a finely crafted red from the hills of Veneto, capturing the elegance and depth that Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella can deliver in skilled hands. This is not a simple everyday Valpolicella, but a serious, structured Superiore that balances finesse, freshness and layered complexity. From a cooler vintage, it offers remarkable nuance and a more refined, classical profile that will appeal to lovers of traditional Northern Italian reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2014 shows a medium ruby core with garnet reflections at the rim, hinting at graceful evolution. The nose opens with vivid red cherry and wild berries, followed by notes of dried rose petals, sweet tobacco, black tea, and subtle spices—clove, pepper and a touch of cocoa—underscored by earthy mineral tones. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet concentrated, with juicy sour cherry, red plum and wild strawberry framed by fine-grained tannins and a lively, food-friendly acidity. Secondary notes of dried herbs, cedar, cocoa powder and a delicate balsamic nuance emerge with air, giving the wine real complexity without heaviness. The finish is long and savory, with a gentle, lingering grip. At this stage, the 2014 is drinking beautifully, but it still has the structure to evolve further over the next 5–7 years, gaining more tertiary notes of leather, forest floor and dried fruit.

Production
Le Guaite di Noemi’s Valpolicella Superiore is sourced from steep hillside vineyards in the Mezzane area of Valpolicella, where limestone and marl soils, good drainage and significant day–night temperature swings give concentrated yet finely etched fruit. Yields are kept low and harvesting is done by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe bunches of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella make it to the cellar. The grapes are carefully sorted, then gently crushed and fermented with extended maceration to extract color, aroma and structure while preserving freshness. The wine is aged in oak (typically a mix of barriques and larger barrels) for an extended period, allowing tannins to integrate and flavors to harmonize before bottling and further bottle aging.

Food & Serving
This Valpolicella Superiore is a natural match for classic Northern Italian dishes: fresh egg pasta with ragù, braised veal or beef, roast lamb, grilled sausages, and medium-aged cheeses such as Asiago, Monte Veronese or Pecorino. It also works beautifully with mushroom risotto, game birds and charcuterie platters. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and balanced structure. A brief decant of 30–45 minutes is recommended to let the wine open up, especially if enjoyed on the younger side of its drinking window.

Producer
Le Guaite di Noemi is a small, quality-driven family estate in the hills of Mezzane di Sotto in Valpolicella, founded and led by Noemi Pizzighella, one of the rising names of the region. Working with a strong focus on low yields, meticulous vineyard care and minimal-intervention winemaking, the estate has quickly gained a reputation for producing artisanal, terroir-focused expressions of Valpolicella, Ripasso and Amarone. By combining traditional techniques—hand harvesting, careful selection and thoughtful oak aging—with a modern sensitivity to balance and precision, Le Guaite di Noemi has become a respected reference for characterful, authentic wines that speak clearly of their Venetian hillside origins.
