Description

Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Blanc de Blancs Longitude 1er Cru Extra Brut is a precise, chalk-driven interpretation of grower Champagne in its purest form. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay sourced from premier cru vineyards along the famous Côte des Blancs ‘longitude’ line, it delivers tension, finesse and mineral depth rather than overt richness. This cuvée has become a benchmark for serious Blanc de Blancs lovers seeking a dry, terroir-expressive style with real energy and length.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Longitude shows a pale, luminous straw colour with fine, persistent bubbles and a delicate mousse. On the nose, it opens with notes of lemon zest, green apple and white flowers, layered with hints of chalk dust, crushed shells, almond and a touch of brioche from extended lees aging. The palate is taut and tense, driven by its chalky origins: citrus, pear and crisp stone fruit intertwine with saline minerality and a whisper of hazelnut. The Extra Brut dosage keeps the wine razor-fresh yet beautifully balanced, delivering a long, linear finish that feels both vibrant and refined. While already compelling on release, it will gain further complexity over the next 5–8 years, developing more pastry, nutty and honeyed nuances with time in bottle.

Production
Longitude is sourced exclusively from Chardonnay vines in top premier cru terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, notably Vertus, Oger, Avize and Cramant – villages aligned along a north–south ‘longitude’ of deep, pure chalk. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with low yields, meticulous hand work and hand harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes reach the press. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, often in a combination of stainless steel and neutral barrels, followed by extended aging on the lees to build texture and complexity. The finished wine is bottled for secondary fermentation and rests for several years before disgorgement with a very low Extra Brut dosage, allowing the limestone-driven character of the terroir to shine through.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is a superb match for delicate, mineral-driven dishes: think oysters, scallops, tartares, sashimi, poached white fish, caviar, sushi or simple grilled prawns with lemon. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat’s cheese, lightly dressed seafood salads or fine tempura. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–10°C (48–50°F), to allow the aromatics and texture to open up. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass is usually enough; no long decanting is needed, though pouring into a slightly larger white wine glass rather than a narrow flute will let its complexity fully express itself.

Producer
Larmandier-Bernier is one of Champagne’s leading grower-producers, based in Vertus in the Côte des Blancs, and renowned for its terroir-first, low-intervention approach. The family has cultivated vines in Champagne for generations, but it was in the late 20th century that they began to bottle under their own name and move decisively toward organic and biodynamic farming. Today, their Chardonnay-focused wines are considered reference points for serious, artisanal Champagne, celebrated for their purity, low dosage and ability to translate the nuances of chalk-rich premier cru and grand cru sites. Frequently praised by critics and sommeliers worldwide, Larmandier-Bernier plays a key role in the rise of grower Champagne on the global fine wine stage.
