Description

Château Lagrange is one of Saint-Julien’s most respected names, and the 2021 vintage shows the elegance and precision that have made this Third Growth estate such a standout. Located in the heart of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, it combines classic gravelly terroir, careful winemaking, and a long history dating back to the 1855 Classification.

Tasting Notes
This 2021 Lagrange typically shows a deep ruby colour with bright, youthful highlights. On the nose, expect a refined mix of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, violets, and subtle spice, with the vintage’s cooler profile lending freshness and lift. The palate is medium-bodied and finely structured, with polished tannins, lively acidity, and a focused core of dark fruit, tobacco, and savoury mineral notes. It is a wine built more on balance and clarity than sheer power, and it should develop gracefully over the next 10–15 years, gaining complexity and nuance with cellar age.

Production
Château Lagrange sits on classic Saint-Julien gravel soils with excellent drainage, helping the vines ripen evenly while preserving freshness. The estate’s vineyards are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, and grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal maturity. Vinification is carried out with careful plot selection and modern precision to protect the purity of fruit and the structure of the blend. Fermentation is followed by ageing in oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak depending on the vintage, allowing the wine to gain depth, texture, and aromatic complexity without losing its Saint-Julien finesse.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for classic red-meat dishes such as ribeye, roast lamb, beef tenderloin, or duck breast. It also pairs well with mushroom-based dishes, truffle risotto, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for about 1–2 hours if drinking young, to help the aromatics open up and soften the tannins.

Producer
Château Lagrange is a historic Third Growth estate in Saint-Julien, officially classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The property has long been recognized for producing wines that combine structure, elegance, and consistency, and it holds an important place among the Médoc’s top châteaux. Over the years, it has earned a strong reputation for dependable quality and a style that reflects the refined character of its appellation.
