Production
Château Lafite Rothschild sits on some of the most revered terroir in Pauillac, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, with deep gravel soils over limestone that naturally limit yields and impart remarkable finesse and minerality to the wines. The vineyards, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, are meticulously tended and harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified traditionally in temperature-controlled vats, with careful extraction to preserve purity and elegance. The grand vin then ages in a high proportion of new French oak barrels, where it slowly integrates oak nuances with the character of the fruit and the Pauillac terroir, resulting in a wine of great refinement and longevity.

Mature hard cheeses such as Comté, aged Gouda, or well-aged cheddar also work beautifully. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to allow the aromas and structure to show their best. In its youth and early maturity, decanting for 2–3 hours is strongly recommended to help the wine open up; older bottles should be decanted gently and more briefly, mainly to separate them from sediment.
