La Spia Alpi Retiche Castelasc Rosso is a modern, characterful red from the heart of Valtellina, crafted for drinkability and immediate pleasure. Made from Nebbiolo, Pignola Valtellinese, and Rossola Nera, it combines local tradition with an experimental spirit, offering an unusual and refreshing take on Lombardy wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, lively red hue with the kind of clarity that speaks to careful élevage. The nose is notably aromatic and inviting, with an immediate fruit-driven appeal that makes the wine feel open and accessible from the first pour. On the palate, it is elegant and streamlined, with gentle structure, soft velvety tannins, and a balanced 13% ABV that keeps the wine fresh and easy to enjoy. The brief aging in mostly used oak helps stabilize the color and add shape without overpowering the fruit. It is made to be enjoyed young, though it should hold well over the short to medium term thanks to its careful maturation and screw-cap closure.

Production
The grapes come from managed vineyards in the communes of Mello, Berbenno, and Chiuro in Lombardy’s Valtellina area, where mountain conditions help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The wine is aged for 8 to 12 months in semi-new barrels, a measured approach that adds structure and texture while allowing the regional character of the blend to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red that pairs well with cured meats, roasted poultry, mushroom risotto, grilled sausages, and medium-aged cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, and there is no need to decant unless you want to give it a little extra air after opening.
