Description

La Pierre Ronde Meursault Les Perchots 2023 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the generous, mineral-driven character of Meursault in a fresh, modern style. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay grown in the well-regarded Les Perchots lieu-dit, it balances richness with precision, offering both immediate pleasure and the promise of complexity over time. This is a bottle for Burgundy lovers who appreciate classic Meursault texture wrapped in vibrant, youthful energy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, pale to medium lemon-gold hue with youthful highlights, hinting at its freshness and concentration. The nose is expressive yet poised, opening with notes of ripe lemon, crisp green apple, and white peach, layered with nuances of toasted hazelnut, fresh cream, and a subtle touch of vanilla and brioche from carefully judged oak. Underneath, a chalky, stony minerality and a hint of citrus blossom give lift and definition. On the palate, La Pierre Ronde Meursault Les Perchots 2023 is medium to full-bodied, with a silky, almost glycerol texture cut by a vibrant, linear acidity. Flavors of lemon curd, pear, and stone fruit mingle with almond, buttered toast, and a delicate spice from barrel aging, finishing with a long, saline, and subtly smoky aftertaste. While already approachable in its youth for those who enjoy tension and freshness, this vintage has the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 5–8 years, gaining further complexity, creaminess, and tertiary notes of honey, nuts, and dried flowers.

Production
Les Perchots lies on classic Meursault limestone-clay soils, which give Chardonnay both its breadth and its hallmark mineral edge. La Pierre Ronde works with carefully tended vineyards, where yields are kept in check to favor concentration and purity of fruit. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic detail, then gently pressed and fermented in temperature-controlled conditions, with a portion raised in oak barrels to add texture and depth without overpowering the terroir. Lees aging and occasional bâtonnage (lees stirring) contribute to the wine’s creamy mid-palate and complexity, while a restrained use of new oak keeps the focus on elegance and precision.

Food & Serving
This Meursault is a natural partner for refined dishes such as seared scallops, lobster with beurre blanc, roasted monkfish, or rich butter-poached turbot. It also shines with roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, or earthy dishes featuring morels and other wild mushrooms, as well as mature hard cheeses like Comté or aged Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail; as it warms slightly in the glass, the wine will reveal more of its layered texture and complexity. Young bottles will benefit from a brief 30–45 minute decant to open up the aromatics, while more mature examples can simply be poured and enjoyed, allowing them to unfold gradually in the glass.

Producer
La Pierre Ronde is a quality-focused Burgundy producer with a particular emphasis on expressing the nuance of individual terroirs through Chardonnay. Working in and around Meursault, the estate has built a reputation for wines that marry classical richness with a refined, mineral-driven profile that feels very much of the new generation. Their parcels in lieux-dits such as Les Perchots are managed with careful attention to vineyard health and low-intervention practices in the cellar, allowing the character of each site to shine. While not among the largest domaines in the region, La Pierre Ronde has steadily gained recognition among Burgundy enthusiasts for its precision, purity of fruit, and thoughtful, terroir-first approach to winemaking.

A consultant for many great wineries (Domaine Leflaive anyone?) turned winemaker. The wines got great reviews from his first vintage on (2021). Modern wines made with a steady but gentle hand. Experimentation in the cellar with different barrel sizes and amphoras. This estate already shows tremendous potential and will be part of the super-league of great wine producers.
