Description

La Pierre Ronde Meursault Les Malpoiriers 2023 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the opulence and precision that have made Meursault world‑famous. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, this cuvée comes from the Les Malpoiriers lieu‑dit, a site known for producing wines with both richness and mineral tension. This 2023 vintage offers a fresh, contemporary expression of Meursault’s classic style, balancing generous fruit with an elegant, saline backbone.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Pierre Ronde Meursault Les Malpoiriers 2023 shows a bright, pale gold hue with subtle green reflections, hinting at both youth and vibrancy. The nose opens with layers of ripe citrus—lemon curd and tangerine zest—followed by crisp green apple, white peach and a touch of pear. With a little air, more complex notes emerge: toasted hazelnut, fresh butter, acacia blossom and a delicate flinty minerality. On the palate, this Meursault is generous yet focused. A silky, almost creamy texture is lifted by a lively line of acidity, carrying flavors of citrus, stone fruit and a hint of pineapple, wrapped in nuances of brioche, almond and subtle vanilla from judicious oak aging. The finish is long and mouthwatering, marked by chalky minerality and a gentle saline touch. Enjoyable now for its purity and energy, it has the structure and concentration to evolve beautifully over the next 6–8 years, gaining complexity and more pronounced nutty, honeyed nuances with bottle age.

Production
Les Malpoiriers lies on classic Meursault limestone and marl soils, which help give this Chardonnay its combination of richness and tension. La Pierre Ronde sources fruit from well‑exposed vineyards where yields are kept low to ensure concentration and aromatic depth. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and to allow for careful selection in the vineyard and at the winery. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled conditions, with a portion in French oak barrels, some of which are new or recent vintages, to provide texture and complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The wine is then aged on fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage as appropriate, to build mid‑palate weight and enhance its characteristic Meursault creaminess, before being bottled with a focus on purity and balance.

Food & Serving
La Pierre Ronde Meursault Les Malpoiriers 2023 is a natural partner for refined cuisine. It shines with butter‑poached lobster, seared scallops, sole meunière, and roast turbot or monkfish. On land, try it with roast chicken with morels, veal in cream sauce, or porcini risotto, as well as aged Comté, Beaufort or other nutty Alpine cheeses. Serve at 10–12 °C (50–54 °F) to reveal both its freshness and depth. For maximal expression, especially in its youth, decanting for 20–30 minutes in a medium‑sized white wine carafe helps the aromatics open and integrates the oak nuances.

Producer
La Pierre Ronde is a quality‑focused Burgundy producer with a particular dedication to expressing the nuanced terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Working with carefully selected parcels, including the esteemed Les Malpoiriers site in Meursault, the estate emphasizes precision viticulture, low yields and attentive, largely traditional cellar work. In a region where Chardonnay reaches some of its highest expressions, La Pierre Ronde has built a reputation among insiders for wines that combine Meursault’s classic generosity with a modern sense of clarity and restraint. The domaine’s growing presence on premium wine lists and in discerning cellars underscores its status as a rising name to follow in Burgundy.
