Description

La Pierre Ronde Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus 2023 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the opulence and precision that have made Meursault one of the most coveted addresses for Chardonnay. Sourced from the prestigious Les Charmes-Dessus climat, this wine balances generous ripeness with lifted freshness, offering both immediate pleasure and real ageing potential. As a Premier Cru bottling from one of Meursault’s top sites, it stands out for its depth, detail and unmistakable sense of place.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Meursault 1er Cru shows a luminous pale gold colour with subtle green reflections, hinting at both youth and concentration. The nose opens with layered aromas of ripe pear, white peach and lemon zest, followed by notes of toasted hazelnut, fresh cream, acacia blossom and a touch of flinty minerality that is classic for Les Charmes. On the palate, the wine is generous yet finely chiselled, with a silky texture wrapped around a vibrant, saline backbone. Flavours of stone fruit, citrus curd and crisp apple are interwoven with nuances of buttered brioche, roasted almonds and subtle vanilla from carefully judged oak. The finish is long, pure and mouth-watering, leaving an impression of ripe fruit lifted by chalky tension. While already enjoyable in its youth for its expressive fruit and elegance, this 2023 has the structure and acidity to evolve gracefully over 8–12 years, gaining complexity, nuttiness and honeyed depth with time in bottle.

Production
Les Charmes-Dessus is one of Meursault’s most renowned Premier Cru climats, known for its well-exposed slopes, limestone-rich soils and fine clay that together produce Chardonnay of both power and finesse. La Pierre Ronde sources from low-yielding vines, with harvesting carried out by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatic purity and natural acidity. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is allowed to settle before fermentation, which typically takes place in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new to add subtle structure rather than overt woodiness. Extended ageing on fine lees with occasional bâtonnage enhances texture and complexity while maintaining the wine’s underlying freshness and mineral drive.

Food & Serving
This Meursault 1er Cru is a natural partner for refined dishes such as butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, turbot or sole with beurre blanc, and roasted chicken with morel cream sauce. It also shines alongside richer seafood pastas, veal in white wine sauces and aged, nutty cheeses like Comté or Beaufort. Serve at 10–12°C to allow the aromatic complexity to unfold without losing tension. A brief decanting of 20–30 minutes in its youth can help the wine open up, while more mature bottles will benefit from gentle handling and serving directly from the bottle once sediment has settled.

Producer
La Pierre Ronde is a quality-focused producer with a strong Burgundian sensibility, dedicated to expressing the nuances of individual climats through meticulous work in the vineyard and a restrained hand in the cellar. Based in the heart of Burgundy, the estate has built its reputation on crafting Chardonnay that showcases clarity, balance and terroir transparency rather than sheer power. Working closely with top sites like Meursault’s Les Charmes-Dessus, La Pierre Ronde has become known among insiders for its precise, vineyard-driven bottlings that stand confidently alongside better-known names in the region. Their commitment to careful farming, low yields and thoughtful élevage has earned the domaine a growing following among collectors and serious white Burgundy enthusiasts.
