Description

La Mission Haut-Brion 2017 is one of Bordeaux’s most coveted estates, offering remarkable depth, precision and finesse from the heart of Graves. As a Grand Cru Classé, it stands apart for its historic pedigree and its consistently refined, age-worthy style that has made it a benchmark among the great wines of the Left Bank.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby colour with impressive concentration and youthful brightness. The nose is layered and complex, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, graphite, cedar, tobacco and subtle smoky mineral notes that speak to its Graves origin. On the palate, it is polished and structured, combining ripe dark fruit with fine tannins, свеж? no English, let's rewrite: ripe dark fruit, savory earthiness and a long, elegant finish. The 2017 vintage is known for its freshness and balance, giving the wine an especially precise and lifted profile. While already beautifully expressive, it has the concentration and structure to develop gracefully over many years, gaining additional complexity with cellaring.

Production
La Mission Haut-Brion is sourced from historic gravel-rich soils in Graves, where excellent drainage and a warm microclimate help produce wines of intensity and refinement. The vineyards are carefully managed, with meticulous attention to parcel selection and harvest timing to ensure optimal ripeness. Vinification is traditionally handled with great precision, aiming to preserve purity of fruit, structure and the distinctive smoky-mineral character associated with the estate. The wine is typically aged in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity without overshadowing the vineyard’s natural elegance.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game with mushroom sauces. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, aged hard cheeses and rich, savoury vegetarian preparations. Serve at 16-18°C and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Producer
La Mission Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates, with a history dating back centuries and a reputation closely tied to the rise of great Graves wines. Located just across from Château Haut-Brion, it has long been regarded as one of the region’s most important properties and was classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in 1959. Under the stewardship of the Dillon family, the estate has maintained its status as a reference point for power, elegance and longevity in Bordeaux.
