Description
La Dominique Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion 2019 is a polished Bordeaux from one of the Right Bank’s most admired estates, combining the generous fruit of Merlot with the structure and lift of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As a Grand Cru Classé, it carries both pedigree and precision, offering a modern expression of Saint-Émilion while staying true to the region’s long winemaking tradition.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby-purple colour, hinting at its youth and concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry supported by notes of violet, cedar, cocoa, and a subtle earthy mineral edge.
On the palate, it is supple yet structured, with a creamy core of dark fruit balanced by fine tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long and refined, with spice, graphite, and a touch of oak complexity. While approachable in its youth with proper aeration, it should develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years, gaining more nuance and depth.
Production
Sourced from Saint-Émilion’s prized terroir, La Dominique benefits from clay-limestone soils that are especially well suited to Merlot, helping to build richness, texture, and aromatic depth. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon is designed to capture both power and elegance, with careful vineyard work focused on achieving ripe, healthy fruit. Vinification is handled with precision to preserve purity of fruit and balance, followed by maturation in oak to add structure and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs naturally with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or mushroom-based dishes, and it also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully and soften its tannins.
Producer
La Dominique is a respected Saint-Émilion estate with a strong reputation for quality and refinement, and its Grand Cru Classé status underscores its importance in the region. The château has long been associated with thoughtful viticulture and careful winemaking, and in recent years it has continued to strengthen its profile with wines that reflect both tradition and a modern Bordeaux sensibility.
