La Bouche du Roi Grande Vue Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a distinctive French white wine from the historic Versailles area, where winemakers Adrien Pélissié and Julien Brustis are bringing winemaking back to the region after centuries of silence. Combining a unique chalk-rich terroir with careful, contemporary production, it offers a fuller and more textured expression of Sauvignon Blanc than many classic Loire examples.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a bright golden-yellow colour in the glass. Its generous nose is full and subtly exotic, with vibrant citrus fruit at the forefront and an inviting sense of depth. On the palate, it is broad and rounded, balancing its ripe fruit character with freshness and structure. The finish is long, complex and persistent, making this a Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy both in its youth and over the next few years as its texture and layers develop.

Production
The vineyards lie on the Versailles plain, where chalky soils provide the foundation for the wine’s mineral character and individual identity. The project follows a sustainable approach and places strong emphasis on respect for the land and traditional craftsmanship. Fermentation and maturation take place in 300- and 400-litre oak barrels that have previously been used for two to three wines, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity without an overly dominant oak character.

Food & Serving
Its generous body and lively citrus freshness make it an excellent partner for seafood, grilled fish, shellfish and dishes featuring lemon or fresh herbs. It also works well with goat’s cheese, poultry in a creamy sauce and lightly spiced cuisine. Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but allowing the wine to breathe briefly in the glass or serving it from a carafe can reveal additional complexity.

Their sustainable, terroir-focused approach is helping establish a new identity for Versailles wines and bringing the area’s remarkable history back to life.
