Kurtatsch Cabernet Sauvignon Freienfeld Riserva 2022 is a refined expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the sun-drenched slopes of Cortaccia in Trentino-Alto Adige. Named after the historic Freienfeld estate, where the winery was founded in 1900, this wine reflects both deep local heritage and the region’s longstanding potential for producing elegant, structured Cabernet. It is vinified only in optimal weather conditions, making each release a carefully selected and distinctive Riserva.

Tasting Notes
This Riserva typically shows a deep, concentrated ruby color with impressive clarity. The nose is expected to combine classic Cabernet character with layers of dark berries, cassis, subtle herbal notes, and a fine mineral edge from the limestone-dolomite soils. On the palate, it should be structured and polished, with ripe blackcurrant and plum flavors supported by firm tannins, fresh acidity, and a savoury, mineral-driven finish. The wine’s balance and concentration suggest very good aging potential, allowing it to develop greater complexity over time.

Production
Freienfeld comes from the sun-exposed slopes of Cortaccia, where porous limestone-dolomite soils provide excellent drainage and help shape Cabernet with precision and finesse. The vineyard’s position and terroir are key to its ripeness and structure, while the wine is only produced in years with optimal weather conditions. This selective approach underscores the estate’s focus on quality and consistency in vinification.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled beef, roast lamb, venison, braised short ribs, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression of fruit and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to open up the aromatics and soften the tannins.
