Description

Krug Grande Cuvée 169ème Édition is a remarkable non-vintage Champagne that captures the House of Krug’s signature pursuit of depth, elegance, and consistency year after year. Built from 146 wines across 11 different vintages, it delivers a complexity and richness that few Champagnes can match, while staying beautifully refined and timeless. Since 1843, Krug has used this multi-vintage approach to create a Champagne that transcends the idea of a single harvest.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous golden color with very fine, persistent bubbles that speak to its long maturation. The nose is layered and expressive, with floral notes, ripe fruit, citrus, almond, marzipan, nougat, brioche, and a hint of honeyed pastry. The palate is full-bodied yet silky, with an excellent balance between freshness, fruit intensity, and a subtle spicy edge. Notes of hazelnut, mandarin, citrus peel, brioche, and toasted nuts unfold into an exceptionally long, polished finish. This is a Champagne with outstanding aging potential, and while it is already deeply expressive, it can continue to evolve gracefully for many years.

Production
Krug Grande Cuvée 169ème Édition is assembled from a blend of 146 wines drawn from 11 vintages, with the oldest from 2000 and the youngest from 2013. The blend is built from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, with the exact proportions varying to achieve the desired harmony and complexity. After blending, it matures for around seven years in Krug’s cellars, allowing the wine to gain its characteristic texture, precision, and depth.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is superb as an aperitif, but it truly shines alongside refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, roast chicken, truffled risotto, aged Comté, or even lightly savory dishes with hazelnut or almond elements. Serve chilled at around 9–12°C. Decanting is generally not necessary, though allowing it a few minutes in the glass can help open its full aromatic range.

Producer
Champagne Krug is one of the most prestigious houses in Champagne, founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who believed that great Champagne should be exceptional every year, regardless of vintage variation. That philosophy remains central to the house today, and Krug is widely celebrated for its masterful blending, depth, and consistency. Its Grande Cuvée stands as one of the most respected prestige non-vintage Champagnes in the world.
