Description
Krug 1996 is a remarkable vintage Champagne from one of the region’s most legendary houses, celebrated for its striking freshness, depth, and unmistakable structure. Blending 48% Pinot Noir, 31% Chardonnay, and 21% Meunier, it shows the signature Krug richness with a tension and precision that have made 1996 one of the house’s most iconic releases.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shines a deep golden yellow with fine, persistent bubbles that reflect its long maturation. The bouquet is expansive and layered, opening with ripe citrus, brioche, toasted nuts, and a delicate mineral edge.
On the palate, it is both powerful and elegant, balancing ripe fruit concentration with vivid acidity and impressive volume. The finish is exceptionally long and complex, and the wine still has the structure and freshness to continue evolving beautifully in bottle for years to come.
Production
Krug 1996 comes from Champagne’s cool-climate terroir, where the vintage’s naturally high acidity helped shape a wine of exceptional tension and longevity. The final blend combines predominantly Pinot Noir for structure and depth, Chardonnay for precision, and Meunier for roundness, with careful vinification and extended aging contributing to its layered complexity and fine mousse.
Food & Serving
This is a Champagne for refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, roast poultry, truffle risotto, or aged Comté and Parmesan. Serve it well chilled at around 10–12°C, and while it can be enjoyed straight from the bottle, a short decant may help reveal additional aromatic detail for those who prefer a more open expression.
Producer
Champagne Krug was founded in 1843 and has earned a global reputation for crafting some of the most complex and prestigious Champagnes in the world.
