Kongsgaard Syrah 2022 is a striking expression of cool-climate power and refined detail, crafted in John Kongsgaard’s unmistakable style. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Atlas Peak, it brings together Rhône-inspired structure and the depth and concentration that define great Napa Valley Syrah.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark core with a cool, polished edge. Aromas of black berries, black olive, pepper, smoke, leather, lavender, graphite, and a subtle bloody mineral note unfold with air. The palate is precise yet sensual, with a juicy center, firm tannins, and layers that build slowly rather than loudly. It finishes long, spicy, and vibrant, with excellent balance and the kind of structure that suggests impressive aging potential over the next decade or more.

Production
The fruit comes from Kongsgaard’s own high-altitude vineyards in Atlas Peak, where volcanic soils and cool nights help preserve freshness while encouraging a firm tannin profile. The grapes are fermented with whole clusters in small open-top fermenters using native yeasts, then matured for around 20 months in French barriques, with only a small portion of new oak, to preserve purity and tension.

Food & Serving
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, venison, duck breast, braised short ribs, and dishes with rosemary, black pepper, or smoky elements. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open.
