Description
Klaus Peter Keller’s 2013 Kirchspiel Riesling GG is a distinguished dry Riesling from one of Rheinhessen’s most celebrated vineyards. Classified as a Großes Gewächs (GG), it represents the highest level of quality within Germany’s VDP classification, combining the character of a renowned single vineyard with Keller’s precise, age-worthy style.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a luminous golden colour with subtle green reflections. Its aromatic profile is expressive and refined, offering ripe peach, citrus fruit and the stony, mineral nuances associated with the Kirchspiel vineyard. With further development in bottle, it may also reveal deeper notes of white fruit, herbs and gentle savoury complexity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with concentrated fruit, lively acidity and a firm mineral backbone. The 2013 vintage is already capable of giving great pleasure, while its structure and freshness support further ageing for those who enjoy mature Riesling. The finish is long, focused and distinctly mineral.
Production
Kirchspiel is a prestigious vineyard site near Westhofen in Rheinhessen, known for its limestone-influenced soils and favourable, sheltered setting. These conditions help produce Rieslings with both richness and pronounced mineral definition. As a VDP Großes Gewächs, the wine comes from a classified top site and was produced according to strict quality requirements, with the emphasis on expressing the vineyard and the natural balance of the vintage.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C to allow the wine’s complexity to unfold. It is an excellent match for refined fish dishes, shellfish, grilled or steamed seafood and Asian cuisine, particularly dishes with aromatic herbs, ginger or a gentle touch of spice. Decanting is not essential, but 20–30 minutes of air in a decanter or a generous glass can help reveal the wine’s mature aromas and mineral depth.
Producer
Klaus Peter Keller’s family estate in Flörsheim-Dalsheim is widely regarded as one of Germany’s leading producers and has played a major role in elevating Rheinhessen’s international reputation. Keller is especially known for highly individual Rieslings from outstanding sites, including Kirchspiel, where meticulous vineyard work and restrained winemaking allow the character of the terroir to shine. His wines are celebrated for their precision, concentration, finesse and remarkable ageing potential.
