Description

Moritz Kissinger Deutscher Winzersekt Nr. 4 Bio Magnum is a handcrafted German sparkling wine that captures the new energy and ambition of Germany’s young grower‑Sekt scene. Made from organically grown Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) in Rheinhessen and bottled in an impressive magnum format, it is designed as much for serious drinking at the table as it is for celebratory toasts. Inspired by the finesse and precision of grower Champagne, this Winzersekt combines vibrant freshness, fine mousse, and real depth of character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Winzersekt Nr. 4 Bio shows a pale straw to light lemon color, animated by a very fine, persistent bead that hints at its extended time on the lees. The appearance is bright and crystalline, with a delicate mousse that forms a refined, creamy crown. On the nose, expect pure, cool aromas of green and yellow apple, conference pear, white peach and quince, layered with notes of lemon zest, crushed chalk, fresh brioche and a hint of roasted hazelnut. Subtle floral nuances (acacia blossom, chamomile) and a touch of herbal freshness add complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The palate is focused and precise: Pinot Blanc’s gentle fruitiness meets a taut, linear acidity and a very fine, silky perlage. Flavors of crisp apple, pear and citrus are underpinned by a salty, stony minerality and discreet autolytic tones of brioche, biscuit and almond cream. The finish is long, dry and mouth‑watering, with a lovely balance between tension and drinkability. Enjoyable now for its energy and clarity, this magnum format will reward another 3–6 years of cellaring, gaining more complexity, creaminess and tertiary nuances while retaining its backbone of freshness.

Production
The grapes for Moritz Kissinger’s Winzersekt Nr. 4 Bio Magnum come from organically farmed vineyards in Rheinhessen, a region known for its rolling hills, loess and limestone soils and a mild, dry climate that lends itself beautifully to precise, finely structured sparkling wines. The Weißburgunder vines are carefully tended to ensure balanced ripeness with moderate potential alcohol and vibrant natural acidity—key for top‑quality Sekt. Harvest is carried out by hand, with rigorous selection of healthy, perfectly ripe bunches destined specifically for sparkling wine. After gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented at controlled temperatures, often in a mix of small and larger wooden casks to build texture and subtle spice without masking the varietal character. Following the traditional method (Flaschengärung), the second fermentation takes place in bottle, where the wine rests on its lees for an extended period to develop its fine mousse and brioche‑like complexity before riddling, disgorgement and minimal dosage to preserve a dry, terroir‑driven style.

Food & Serving
This organic Winzersekt in magnum format is a versatile partner at the table and a natural choice for gatherings. It shines alongside delicate seafood—oysters, ceviche, scallop carpaccio, sashimi, poached trout or steamed mussels—but also works beautifully with lightly creamy dishes such as poultry in a white wine sauce, fine charcuterie, soft goat’s cheese, grilled seasonal vegetables or simple risotto with herbs and lemon. Its freshness and structure also pair well with modern vegetable‑driven cuisine and lighter Asian dishes (think sushi, tempura or lightly spiced Vietnamese rolls). Serve well chilled at around 7–9 °C; the magnum will warm slowly and stay fresh over the course of an evening. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving and pouring the first small glass helps the aromas open up nicely.

Producer
M. Kissinger represents a new wave of German growers who take Sekt as seriously as still wine, bringing Champagne‑level ambition to Rheinhessen’s vineyards. Moritz Kissinger, part of a young generation of winemakers, has helped reposition German Winzersekt from a simple ‘toast and forget’ drink to a category capable of real finesse, terroir expression and aging potential. Drawing inspiration from small grower‑Champagne producers, he focuses on meticulous vineyard work, organic farming and traditional bottle fermentation with extended lees aging. Within Rheinhessen, his Sekte have become reference points for vibrant, precise and characterful sparkling wines, contributing to the broader renaissance of German Sekt on the international stage.
