Production
The Kirchspiel vineyard forms a natural amphitheater rising to around 150 meters, opening toward the southeast in the direction of the Rhine. This exposure captures the morning sun while offering protection from cold winds, creating an ideal mesoclimate for slow, even ripening of Riesling. The soils are dominated by clay-marl interspersed with limestone, contributing both power and a tightly wound, saline minerality to the wines. At K.F. Groebe, the vines in Kirchspiel are largely mature, some up to 30 years old, and are farmed with strong ecological awareness and respect for the land. Yields are kept low, and harvest is carried out selectively by hand to ensure only fully ripe, healthy grapes are picked. In the cellar, the must is handled gently and fermented slowly—typically with a focus on preserving terroir character rather than imprinting heavy oak influence.
