Description
Judith Beck Out 2021 Bio is a vibrant, organically crafted red from Austria’s Burgenland, blending Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt into an effortlessly drinkable, modern cuvée. Bottled unfiltered with only a minimal addition of sulfur, it captures the pure, juicy character of local grapes while remaining beautifully balanced and accessible. As one of the estate’s younger, more playful labels, Out has quickly become a reference point for fresh, natural-leaning reds at an everyday-friendly price.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Out 2021 shows a deep dark red to violet hue, yet remains slightly transparent at the rim, hinting at its freshness and lift. The nose is immediately generous and expressive, packed with ripe sour cherries and blackberries, layered with floral tones and a subtle earthy touch reminiscent of freshly cut red beet.
On the palate, the wine is all about juicy, mouthwatering fruit. Bright cherry and brambly berry flavors are carried by a lively, refreshing acidity and fine, still-youthful tannins that give just enough grip without ever feeling heavy. The texture is light on its feet yet satisfying, making it incredibly easy to drink—fresh, unpretentious, and full of energy. This is a wine meant to be enjoyed in its youth for its vibrancy and charm, though it will comfortably evolve over the next 3–5 years, gaining a bit more softness and complexity.
Production
Out 2021 is sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards around Gols in Burgenland, where the influence of Lake Neusiedl, sandy-gravelly soils, and clay lend both freshness and ripeness to the grapes. The fruit is harvested by hand to ensure careful selection, then fermented spontaneously with native yeasts to preserve the authentic character of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt. Judith Beck vinifies this cuvée with minimal intervention: gentle extraction, maturation in neutral vessels and/or large old oak, and no fining or filtration. Only a very small amount of sulfur is added at bottling, resulting in a pure, honest expression of the region and vintage.
Food & Serving
This lively red is a natural fit for casual, flavor-packed dishes: think charcuterie boards, roast chicken, grilled sausages, burgers, or a simple plate of pasta with tomato-based sauces. It also works beautifully with Austrian classics like schnitzel, cold cuts, and rustic cheese platters, as well as vegetable-driven cuisine—roasted root vegetables, beet salads, or grilled mushrooms. Serve slightly chilled at around 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its freshness and fruit. Decanting is not essential, but a brief splash in a carafe or a few minutes in the glass will help the aromatics open up even more.
