Joh. Bapt. Schäfer’s Goldloch Riesling Großes Gewächs is a serious, site-driven white wine from Germany’s Nahe region, combining concentrated fruit with remarkable mineral depth. Produced from Riesling and classified as a Großes Gewächs, Germany’s highest category for dry estate wines, it is made for both immediate contemplation and long-term cellaring.

Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a bright, elegant appearance and a layered nose of ripe peach, exotic fruit and subtle smoky tones, complemented by delicate herbal nuances reminiscent of woodruff. On the palate, its defining feature is an intense, cool mineral character, supported by juicy fruit, polished texture and finely poised acidity. Despite its concentration, the wine remains silky and refined, with a long, savoury finish marked by mineral spice. Like many Großes Gewächse, the 2019 Goldloch is built to mature. It may benefit considerably from vigorous aeration when opened, while further bottle ageing should allow its tightly wound structure and complexity to unfold over many years.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 10–12°C, allowing the wine to warm slightly in the glass as its aromas develop. Decanting is recommended, particularly in its youth; give it plenty of air before serving. Its mineral precision and generous yet elegant fruit make it an excellent match for roasted or grilled fish, shellfish, poultry with light sauces, veal and refined vegetarian dishes featuring asparagus, mushrooms or fresh herbs.
