Description

Jean Rijckaert Mâcon Villages 2025 is a polished white Burgundy from the southern Mâconnais, offering remarkable depth and freshness for its price. Bright citrus, stone fruit and floral notes combine with a generous texture and a long, refreshing finish, making this an especially refined expression of the appellation.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a clear, pale golden appearance. Its aromatic profile is fresh and inviting, with lively citrus joined by ripe peach, delicate acacia blossom and honeysuckle. On the palate, the attack is energetic and aromatic, followed by a full, rounded texture supported by fine acidity. The finish is intense, beautifully persistent and refreshing, with citrus and floral nuances returning at the close. Although delicious in its youth, the wine’s balance and careful maturation should allow it to develop added roundness and subtle complexity over the next two to three years when properly stored. It is best enjoyed while its freshness and vibrant fruit are at their most expressive.

Production
The wine comes from the Mâconnais, a southern Burgundy region known for its Chardonnay vineyards and a combination of limestone, clay and marl soils that help preserve freshness while lending the wines their characteristic generosity. Jean Rijckaert’s approach centres on low yields and hand harvesting, followed by slow, gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, with alcoholic fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine is then matured for approximately 10 months, allowing its texture and aromatic depth to develop without losing its lively character.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. This Mâcon Villages is an excellent match for warm fish dishes, grilled or roasted poultry, shellfish, creamy seafood preparations and other light meats. It can be enjoyed directly after opening, but a brief 15–20 minutes in a decanter or a few vigorous swirls in the glass may help reveal its peach, floral and citrus aromas.

Producer
Belgian-born Jean Rijckaert began making wine in the Mâconnais in 1990 and founded Domaine Rijckaert in 1998. His passion for distinctive terroirs led him to establish holdings both in the Mâconnais and in Jura, with separate cellars in Davayé and Villette-lès-Arbois so that each wine can be handled close to its vineyards. The domaine has also expanded its range through carefully selected purchased fruit from areas including Chablis and the Côte d’Or, all processed under the producer’s own supervision. Since meeting Jean in 2013, Florent Rouve has gradually taken over the winemaking, continuing their shared philosophy of low yields, hand harvesting, gentle pressing, native yeasts and patient maturation.
