Description
Jean-Michel Gaunoux’s Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 2022 is a striking expression of one of Meursault’s most celebrated climats, known for its limestone-driven precision and mineral tension. In Gaunoux’s hands, the wine delivers a cool, focused style that puts structure, depth, and terroir at the forefront, making it a compelling modern-classic Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, refined profile with aromas of lemon zest, wet stone, green almond, and a subtle touch of toasted brioche. The palate is taut and linear, with vibrant acidity, salty mineral notes, and a long, energetic finish that underscores the wine’s precision and poise.
While already impressive for its clarity and intensity, this is a wine that should develop beautifully with time. Expect further complexity over the next 8–12 years, as the texture broadens and the mineral depth gains even more nuance.
Production
Les Perrières sits on Meursault’s limestone-rich soils, giving the wine its signature chalky drive and cool, structured character. The grapes are traditionally vinified with spontaneous fermentation and aged in French oak barrels, around 30% new, without bâtonnage. The wine is left on its lees for an extended period and bottled without fining or filtration to preserve texture and purity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for elegant dishes such as lobster, roasted turbot, scallops, poultry with cream sauces, or risotto with mushrooms and fresh herbs. Serve at around 10–12°C to best showcase its freshness and detail, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine in its youth.
Producer
Jean-Michel Gaunoux is a respected name in Meursault, known for crafting wines that favor restraint, precision, and terroir expression over overt richness. The domaine has built a strong reputation in Burgundy for producing classically styled whites with depth and aging potential, particularly from prized Meursault sites like Les Perrières.
